My sustained investigation explores people in nature and the different aspects of this relationship. I began by exploring how I could explore both the good and bad aspects of the relationship between humans and nature, but then moved more into each unique interaction with nature and how that helps form a complex and dimensional relationship with the natural world. I also found ways to depict a human presence in nature through symbolism such as a town and a campsite. I used color to portray different environments and seasons because I have always noticed that different places in the world seem to have different color palettes. I chose to paint in a more impressionistic style to give the paintings a loose, more organic feel, much like nature. I emphasized the light and dark because, outdoors, natural light really impacts the way we view the world. I also used mixed media in my portfolio. Each work has a natural element to bring the viewer into the natural world. This allows the work not only to show the relationship between people and nature, but also lets the viewer connect with nature.
